Chocolate Mousse

Erin might be my friend who looks most related to me. Also check out my cheesecake necklace.

Last night at The Cheesecake Factory I became an ordained minister.

I submitted a form and, like magic, I became Anthony Ordained as I’m calling it. So if you need a wedding officiant, consider me! I dress well, am hot, funny, etc.

I forgot to mention in my last post (Key Lime) that TCF is celebrating their 45th anniversary. If you are a member and you dine in, slices of cheesecake are $4.50 each for the month of October. The server brought me the check and I felt his excitement in revealing this to me so I pretended like I didn’t already know it would be only $4.50 and that that wasn’t my entire reason for dining in.

But THAT was Key Lime, this is Chocolate Mousse.

Erin is a work friend who evolved into a dance partner when we went to Funky Sole night together in Silver Lake. I’ve aIways told her she looks like Bjork and so when I went to her karaoke birthday party, she sang Human Behavior for me and she picked it because we’re both therapists and Human Behavior? Well, it’s kind of our bread and butter. Erin’s human behavior is that she will always check in on me and offer to bring me soup or go to a show or go dancing. She remembers things you say and holds them. You know, like a really good therapist does. She’s one of those. She has a super cute son and husband and dog. She’s proud of her sister the tattoo artist in Portland. And we often have the same opinions about work and the people we work with which is what bonded us early on.

Erin and I have been trying to make a cheesecake date basically this entire year. Things just kept happening, we rescheduled a couple of times, cancelled a couple of times, mostly me cancelling and rescheduling. It’s a tale as old as time. But here we finally are at The Factory together. Now Erin actually goes to TCF somewhat often because it’s a good place to take a kid, you know it’s loud as hell and he likes the Celebration cheesecake which I SAID was for kids, didn’t I!! I’m such a cheesecake expert now. It’s pretty neat.

Erin wanted a chocolate flavor which is great because that’s mostly what’s left on the list. She also likes the Basque and, in my research, I uncovered that she has tried the Caramel Apple before which is a flavor they took off the menu before I had a chance to try it. Unfortunately I did my research (looked through our old texts) after the date so I couldn’t ask her the many questions I have about that flavor.

We sat where I often sit, at the tables by Michael Kors and all the yellow flowers. Erin noted that it looked like Mary Poppins Jolly Holiday over there which nobody has ever noticed before but she’s totally right. That’s what it looks like.

Okay this looks good, right?? It’s chocolate cheesecake with a layer of chocolate mousse on top. And the whipped cream rosettes are essential to this slice. They balance it out. It’s a rich one. We didn’t finish every bite for that reason. AND do you notice that there is a little swipe off the front of this slice? That’s never happened before. I don’t know what to make of it. It looks like a rodent took a bite of it but a cute cartoon one. A rodent you wouldn’t mind sharing with.

Erin and I were pretty focused on the pleasure of this experience. It feels so good to savor a bite of chocolate cheesecake. I told her about how my stepdad told me, in response to hearing that I was scared to die, that there would be cheesecake in heaven. Erin told me about a Ouija board experience she had where they asked a spirit what they miss most about being in a body and it said “hugs”. So yeah! Take the pleasure now while you’re in this freakin meat sack because who knows what’s in heaven!!!!! Maybe my stepdad knows now actually.

One weird thing to note is that I was craving lemonade after eating this slice. I don’t drink lemonade. I never crave it. But I had such a specific hankering for an ice cold lemonade that night that I stopped at a gas station and bought one and yeah, it was exactly what I needed.

I know I don’t always mention it and you’re all probably wondering but yes I am still watching my Housewives and right now I’m on Beverly Hills season 7. And they had a cheesecake moment!! Lisa Rinna and Kim Richards have been fixing to have a fight about Kim’s sobriety all season. It came to a head when Kyle threw a party to feature Carnie Wilson’s new business venture, Small Bites. Take a look.

I didn’t include the fight in this clip, only the talk about the cheesecake. Trust me, there was some fighting. Then they returned to the cheesecake at hand.

I really appreciate how Carnie Wilson used this Housewives drama about whether or not Kim Richards is taking her sobriety seriously enough to promote her cheesecakes. Well done. And a chocolate hazelnut cheesecake does sound good and if TCF isn’t gonna make one I’m glad somebody else is! Also everyone should be watching The Golden Bachelor. My sister got me to watch it, I got Erin to watch it. The Bachelor is 71 and all the women are in their 60s and 70s and they’re all thriving. I hope to be thriving through those decades too in this old MEAT SACK of mine. Taking all the hugs and cheesecake bites I can get.
